Anche quando un connettore di un altro produttore entra meccanicamente in un MC4, \u003cstrong\u003etolleranze, materiali di contatto e geometria delle guarnizioni sono progettati per accoppiarsi con la propria controparte\u003c\/strong\u003e. Un accoppiamento misto genera resistenza di contatto: resistenza significa calore, e su un circuito in continua che lavora tutti i giorni per vent'anni quel punto diventa il guasto. Attenzione anche alla differenza fra 1000V e 1500V: sono classificazioni diverse e vanno rispettate rispetto alla tensione massima di stringa calcolata in progetto.
